Belarus plans to double tax on online gambling

From January 1, 2023, changes affecting certain tax issues will come into force in Belarus, the Belarusian edition of Economic Newspaper reports. Online gambling operators will also face new working conditions.

The Belarusian legislation uses the term «virtual gambling establishment» in relation to online gambling. Changes in tax legislation will increase the tax rate on income from virtual gambling establishments from 4% to 8%.

Taxes are calculated as a percentage of the online gambling operator’s net profit, and are the difference between the winnings paid out and the total amount of the deposit.

Before that, the Belarusian authorities had already raised tax rates related to the gambling business. In particular, the bookmaker’s cash collection increased from 1,500 to 1,650 Belarusian rubles (37.6 thousand to 41.4 thousand Russian rubles).

Tax changes are not the only innovations that may affect the gambling business in Belarus. Earlier it was said that the airtime of gambling advertising on radio and television could be increased.
