OneFootball Lays Off 150 Employees

With recent moves into non-fungible tokens (NFT) and Web3 technology, streaming platform and media company OneFootball has reduced its headcount from 470 to 320.

As recently as December, Onefootball had laid off more than 60 people. The company lost over a third of its employees within a few months.

OneFootball is a platform-based football media company with live scores, statistics, and news from 200 leagues in 12 different languages covered by a newsroom located in Berlin.

According to the company, Onefootball currently reaches more than 130 million fans worldwide every month. More than 400 million euros have flowed into the startup since it was founded. Last year, Onefootball became a unicorn – a startup worth billions.

The Onefootball’s founder Lucas von Cranach hopes of making his company a major player in the blockchain business. In the future, users should be able to buy digital fan merchandise from their favorite clubs and footballers with an email address and a credit card.

Onefootball cooperated with a Chinese provider of blockchain computer games. According to Onefootball, it was planning to herald no less than “a new era of football fan consumption”.
