SBC CIS Editorial Team is back this week with another portion of the news compilation, something that rocked the world of sports betting and iGaming last week and something that needs to be properly integrated into your business life this week. 

We are starting with Breaking News that shook the Ukrainian gambling market last Friday, on March 10 — Parimatch Ukraine was hit by sanctions against russian gambling operators in Ukraine. The President of Ukraine issued a decree No. 145/2023 introducing the sanctions list which includes 287 legal entities and 120 individuals associated with the gambling sector. The sanctions list was developed by the National Security Council of Ukraine. It introduces restrictive measures that will last for up to 50 years. This includes blocking of assets, revocation of licenses, prohibition on the transfer of intellectual property to third parties, trading operations, transfer of goods and withdrawal of the capital. In addition to the representatives of the terrorist country, local companies were also sanctioned in Ukraine, namely Parimatch, Pokermatch.ua, Pointloto, Leo Financial Company (payment systems), Your Betting Company (a Ukrainian legal entity that had previously received and then rapidly lost a license under the brand 1xBet).

SBC Summit North America First Pitch competition is officially open and will run until March 31st. The event provides a unique platform for start-ups in the sports betting and gambling industry to showcase their innovative products and present their business ideas to leading experts and investors. The startup competition will take place at the Meadowlands Convention Center in New Jersey and will be part of the Emerging Tech & Investment conference on May 10th.

Digitec 2022, a major technological event, was held in Armenia on March 10 with the leading Armenian technology company, Digitain, as an event partner. Over 100 exhibitors presented their products, services, and companies to tens of thousands of B2B, government, education, and B2C attendees. 

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that Flutter Entertainment has agreed to pay a $4 million in settlement to address violations of U.S. securities laws. The settlement, which came to light from the SEC this morning, concerns violations of the Exchange Act by Flutter’s Russian gaming affiliate, PokerStars. An investigation by the US Financial Markets Authority found that between May 2015 and May 2022, PokerStars paid approximately $8.9 million to Russian consultants to support the company’s operations and efforts to legalize poker in the country.

Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) announced data sharing partnership with the Integrity Research Unit of the Badminton World Federation (BWF). To demonstrate the World Badminton Federation’s commitment to a clean and fair sport, the agreement was recognized as a key element in badminton players’ control of suspicious bets. This initiative will be used to collect information on athletes, analyze match and competition details, and investigate possible match manipulation.

In Ukraine, a series of five roundtables was held in partnership with the Bet On Good Foundation, where SBC spoke to Ukrainian companies to find out how they were affected by the war that russia waged against their country. 

The Racing Partnership (TRP) announced that Betfred will begin hosting the full Greyhound Fixtures schedule on April 1, 2023. As part of the agreement, the bookmaker receives 36 greyhound competition fixtures per week from TRP.
