How iGaming Companies Support Ukraine During the War

A year has passed since Russia invaded Ukraine. As the conflict continues, the work of humanitarian aid charities understandably attracts a lot of international attention.

In partnership with the Bet On Good Foundation, SBC spoke to several Ukrainian companies about what they are doing to support humanitarian efforts in the country.

Could you please tell us about the activities of your aid company in Ukraine?

Vlad Slyusarenko, CMO at TVBET: most of the TVBET team are Ukrainians who work in Poland or have remained working in Ukraine despite the war. So, for example, most of the marketing team and I are now in Ukraine. And our PR manager, Anna Zhurenko, stayed in Zaporizhzhia, a significant city for Ukrainian identity. Still, nevertheless, the city is located very close to the hostilities, the theater of which expanded to 1200 square kilometers.

From the very beginning of the war, Peter Korpusenko, CEO of TVBET, and the team helped the country in every possible way: they took part in rallies, volunteered, donated, and bought helmets and body armor for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. 

In parallel with this, we observed how other companies from the igaming industry helped Ukraine. You cannot imagine how it inspired us and how important it was for us to see how the whole world, in one second, showed concern for our people who fell into this huge and unfair disaster.

We are good at marketing, communications, and building long-term relationships and relying on this basis, we decided to use our strengths to involve even more industry representatives from different regions in charitable activities aimed at helping Ukraine. Thus, the idea to create Bet on Good Foundation was born, the main goal of which is to unite the efforts of the entire gambling industry to solve all the pressing problems of our time effectively.

Our main task for the near future is to help Ukraine and its residents affected by this war. A huge number of people are left without homes, jobs, money and passports. Moreover, internal emigration is striking in its scale. And now, we have directed all our focus to supporting these people. These are old people and children, mothers and sisters, brothers and fathers. These are all our people, and we cannot leave them in the lurch.

We are happy and open to any suggestions and will gladly team up with other companies to make our help more impactful.

Daniel Heywood, NuxGame CEO: Global companies have a responsibility to take care of all their employees, wherever they are. This sentiment is especially relevant to those living in Ukraine, which currently faces significant security challenges and obstacles.

At NuxGame, we have taken several measures to support our employees in Ukraine.

First, as employers, we are responsible for the economic security of our teams. We believe that this is important to provide some security in times of economic instability. In addition, during the war, we need to ensure that all employees have access to resources. This includes ensuring that the necessary technical infrastructure, such as Starlink and mobile generators, is in place, a safe working environment and security protocols are in place.

Finally, the mental and emotional well-being of employees is just as important as their physical safety. We offer all NuxGame employee programs such as employee assistance to ensure that their needs are met during this worrying period.

In order to provide more direct assistance to those affected by the war, NuxGame has also established the Freedom to Ukraine Charitable Foundation. Through our passion and dedication, the foundation has been able to help people who really need help.

When Russia began shelling critical infrastructure in Ukraine and power and communications were disrupted, the company quickly set up shelters in offices and bought generators and starliners to keep everyone comfortable.

Ivan Kravchuk, CEO of Evoplay: The safety of our employees has always been and remains our number one priority. Since the first day of the invasion, we have done everything possible to urgently help our employees in every possible way. Over the past year, the challenges we have had to overcome have changed daily. After the fighting that started last February, Evoplay moved 15% of its employees to Cyprus and opened an office in Lviv, which is less dangerous than Kyiv, where we have a residential base.

We have a lot of generators in our offices, because Ukraine was on the verge of a complete blackout, since Russia destroyed its power system. Due to the high demand, such power supplies were difficult to find, which was no easy task. In addition, many employees returned to Kyiv, and since this is their home and the place where their families are, it was necessary to provide them with a full-fledged workspace, including electricity and Internet access.

Ruslan Kravchuk, Head of Human Resources, Playson: We have always provided support in times of political and socio-economic upheavals. In response to Russia’s unprecedented military incursion into Ukraine, the safety of people and their families remains Playson’s top priority. A special social package program was launched with the aim of:

  • Relocation of people and their families to safer locations in western Ukraine and to several Playzone sponsored locations.
