Gambling industry in Kazakhstan continues to show impressive results, reaching a turnover of $1.24 billion in 2022. This shows a steady growth of the industry and demonstrates its significant contribution to the country’s economy.

The Kursiv publication cites data from the report of the Vice Minister of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan Yerkinbaev, who shared information on the results of the country’s gambling and lottery business in 2022 while speaking at the lower house of parliament.

Yerkinbayev noted that in 2022, there were 6 casinos, 10 gambling halls, 21 bookmakers and 8 sweepstakes operating in Kazakhstan. The total turnover of the gambling sector for the year amounted to 1.24 billion US dollars, with the state receiving 245 million US dollars in tax payments from gambling operators.

The annual turnover of the lottery business in 2022 was USD 599.8 million. Tax collection from lottery operators brought in more than USD 9 million.

According to the vice minister, close to 5,000 people work in the casino and betting sector, while 8,000 people are involved in the lottery operations.

Yerkinbayev added that the state is making sure that market representatives comply with the requirements of the law — in 2022, 587 documents were sent to operators declaring their activities invalid. In addition, one betting license was terminated.

He also stated that the Ministry of Culture, which serves as the gambling regulator in the country, plans to allow gambling activities on the territory of the hippodromes and reduce the level of the population’s involvement in gambling.
